As a Leo I deeply identify with all of your sun talk. She fuels me!! Love to see a fellow lion luxuriating to start their day💛🌞✨

I’m so glad I came across this newsletter! I’ve been working on becoming a “morning person” for most of my life and have finally made significant progress this year. I love that your routine feels balanced and gentle 🥹 I was drawn in from the first sentence, but I hit that heart button when you mentioned you’re a Leo which I suppose is oh so Leo of me 😂🤭

hehe this is cute🥰 happy (nearly) leo season to us!! and congrats on the progress on becoming a morning person! what does your morning routine look like now? glad you enjoyed the post🩷

The routine evolves each month depending on what’s working and what isn’t! The most essential element is “No snooze” because it’s the first commitment of the day. Unfortunately, the “you snooze you lose” folks were on to something 🙄 lol Then I do a 10-minute walk/step. 30 minutes of movement (always yoga on Wednesdays), then some focused reading and writing 😊

ooooh that sounds divine i love it. gonna steal this and try to incorporate some gentle movement into my morning time too hehe. and i love that you change it up a little depending on what’s working! that’s the key to sticking it out <3

Consider it an exchange because I love the lighting of the candle and tidying up a bit so I will be trying to implement that into my routine! 😊

I would love to be better at a morning routine. One day I will get there, but I start my work day pretty early and struggle to fit in all the things I want to do. I hope this will change at some point in the future. In the meantime, I try and at least stretch every morning. Also agree we need another word for productive. I struggle with it when what I feel is a "productive" weekend is reading my book and getting a substack out. And probably a bit of socialising. Doesn't feel like the right word at all!

yes that's the annoying thing is that work can so easily infiltrate every part of our lives. these jobs try to advertise how much they care about work/life balance but god forbid I do something for myself before work. hoping you can make some changes soon🙏🏾 also will have to brainstorm some "productive" alternatives haha your weekends sound lovely and just how I like to spend mine too!

Candice, this is so beautiful! I love your description of journalling, it's so accurate. And "a list that consists mostly of what to read, what personal projects to work on, how to move my body that day and how i want my mind to feel" is my goal too 👌🏻

candice's avatar

thank you!💛 they're so much better than the usual to do lists hehe

you have such a natural way with words. i'd love to make my morning routine even a quarter of how sacred this sounds 🫶

candice's avatar

this is so lovely of you to say!🥺 and you have everything you need already to make it sacred🩷

I loved this, thank you!

Petition to replace the word "productive" in our vocabulary to "fructuous"

Productive = co-opted by capitalism, shame-inducing, suggests you are producing content for external audiences

Fructuous = sounds cool, is connected to nature, suggests you are growing things from yourself

"I was not productive because I took a nap" versus "I was not fructuous because I did not allow myself to nap"
