I’ve turned my room into a personal museum where you can immediately see who I am and what I’m interested in. Posters, figures, books, colors—they are all there representing me. I’ve also kept a little collection of birthday cards that I’ve received every year, so looking back on them shows me what kind of person I was at that age based on the messages.
it's such a beautiful way to look at material things i think. you room sounds absolutely lovely too! it's like you're own little museum just like you said, that's a really nice way to look at it!
I love this idea! My desk is my altar, covered with candles, my matchbook collection, odd little figurines, my vision board, stacks of books, flowers. It makes me feel more creative when I sit down to write!
an altar is so important and can be challenging when you don’t have much space. renting a tiny room in an apartment shared with 2 other people is the best I can do right now, but I think my whole room is the altar. still, maintaining its cleanliness can be a bit hard just because of how small it is (I need to cram a lot of things into a tiny space). but I do my best and when it is at its best I truly enjoy coming home to it !!
I loved this post! I just moved into my place for the first time and have been struggling to make it feel like "home." I feel the urge to create and get back into my hobbies, but there's a stagnant and claustrophobic feeling that's been making me feel stuck/art blocked. I think creating a little altar of the things that spark joy and intrigue me will bring a new energy to my space and get the creative juices flowing again.
Candice, how do you write so beautifully?! You truly have a way with words. I don't like the term 'alter' as I'm a Christian and it seems very pagan-like to me, but that's my preference.
I know what you mean about having somewhere to sit and do things you enjoy - I feel like I have a few those spaces dotted around the house (and garden), and when colder weather obviously necessitates more time inside I really miss sitting outside with a good book or a YouTube video or my laptop. Ah, if only it could be the last days of summer all year long...
jessica😭 you're too kind to me. ooh multiple sacred places how lovely! also big mood if every day was the last few days of summer oh how relaxed I'd constantly be :') I'm also hoping to move somewhere soon with a garden and I just know that will be somewhere very special to me too🥰
I will be back tomorrow with more words, but I wanted to say: it's midnight here and it was so lovely and soothing and sweet to read this in bed, just before I go to sleep. Thank you for this quiet joy. G'night 💚🌿

all we can do is our best and having you're entire space as an altar sounds absolutely wonderful regardless 🩷🩷
