preparing for an intentional year
choosing my new word of the year, a list of 2025 hopefuls, and wishing you a happy new year <3
Happy New Year <3
What a wonderful time of year it is. Right now, we’re like bare branches at the beginning of March, a tiny green bud that has formed on a twig that’s just starting to prepare itself for the big life of becoming a leaf. How blissful the wind will feel running down its veins, how glorious the sun will feel against its frame, how beautiful the sun will look twinkling in the spaces between it and its friends on nearby branches. How excited it will feel when its body changes colour, the wind picks up and its finally free to explore the world from the ground. We have all of this in store for us as well.
Last year, I had an incredibly peaceful year. You can read more about that here. I chose a word of the year, Slow, and it helped to shape my year in such a way I didn’t think was possible. I highly recommend you choose a word for 2025. It acts as a centring point that will anchor you when you feel like you’re beginning to wander off the path a little.
This year my word is: Nurture. Now that I have learned what it truly means to rest, I feel as though I am finally ready to grab life with both hands and embrace and create opportunities for myself. Maybe I’ll even finish Write for Life by Julia Cameron (The Artist’s Way but for writers). I feel like I have the tools now to be able to recognise when I’m feeling overwhelmed and how to assuage those feelings in a healthy, non-judgemental way.
Here are some things I’m looking forward to and some things I’m trying to be more intentional about this year:
taking my writing seriously
quality purchases
pinterest
optimistic thinking
minimal food waste
keeping up with current events
meditation
reading labels of clothes that I buy
“she's always reading”
turning off my phone / aeroplane mode
going for walks just because
more bullet journaling / junk journaling
continue prioritising my hobbies
boring phone / zero notifications
analogue vibes
no mindless spending
intentional eating
cooking / baking
skincare routine
being more aware of harmful ingredients in products I buy (highly recommend the app Yuka!!)
keeping my mind sharp with crosswords + puzzles
continue fitness journey
proper finance management
using my commonplace book more
minimal ultra-processed foods
deleting the word “trends” from my vocab and eye sight
owning things that don’t spark joy
2025 doesn’t have to be “your year”. It’s just another year, it’s just another trip around the sun. Things will go wrong. Things will feel heavy. But you will be okay. You don’t even have to create a list or a vision board or any of the things that are circling online right now. I do recommend having a word as a guide the year, but if that’s all you do, that is absolutely enough.
I’m looking forward to continue sending you lots of good stuff this year on how to live more intentionally, incorporating digital minimalism into your life, and of course, a little lyrical essay now and then reminding you to slow down and appreciate the beautiful world around us, not whatever is going on on Instagram :)
Thank you all so much for being here. We have so much in store for us this year. I truly hope you have a wonderful 2025.
See you next week <3
